It’s fairly safe to say that many members of my family have never been able to fully get their head around WHY I decided to move to Mexico, but since they love me and know who I am, they don’t question my decisions too much.
One thing they just HATE, however, is that because of the notorious suckage of the Mexican Postal Service, they haven’t been able to send me care packages or gifts through the mail.
Imagine my surprise on Dec. 24 to receive an Express Mail envelope, full of this stuff:

That’s right, the cards I received from various family members had CASH IN THEM and they SENT THEM THROUGH THE MEXICAN MAIL and they ACTUALLY GOT THROUGH WITH THE MONEY INTACT.
I had the strangest feeling, like when you lose your kid at the mall and find them half an hour later swinging from a clothes rack…you’re overjoyed, but want to give him a good smack, too. I was thrilled and grateful for their generosity, but upset at the chance they took, too. I received a FedEX-ed rental check last week from a client that had been opened, looked at, and retaped before it got to me.
It is, truly, nothing short of a miracle that the mail wasn’t opened and divested of its contents. Thank you, crazy family, for giving me a great Christmas!! I love you and miss you all.
I love and miss all of you, too…it’s crazy busy season here in Playa, so blogging has taken a back seat. Back when I can, pollitos.
Merry Christmas indeed!! What a nice surprize!!

You must have been shocked to receive the cash in the mail, and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a fantastic New Year!

So, I guess that’s why I haven’t gotten a thank-you for that brand new purple MacBook, autographed by Prince and wrapped in $50′s…

Customs often opens Fed-Ex as they do not always believe what is declared. In fact that’s kind of their job.

Johnny: I totally understand. But I wonder if it’s also their job to steal stuff. Because that happens a lot here.

If it was listed in the contents I would call Fed Ex, they make good on it. As far as the postal system goes my friend has sent me 6 birthday cards over that span of years. I received one. It is non-existent. That’s why Tel-Mex delivers their own bills. You truly had a Christmas miracle. It was nice to read.
