Anyone fancy a quickie?

Today is Day Without a Gay and I have a longer blog I’d like to write about that, but unfortunately I am sick.  Fever, chills, headache, coughing, sneezing.  I can’t miss another day of work, so I don’t have time for a long blog right now.  I get sick a lot, living here.  I don’t know why that is, but some of us think that because tourists are constantly coming and going, they bring their illnesses with them and we just pass them all over town.  I think it’s because there are so many gross douchebags at the gym who don’t practice proper hygiene or wipe off the machines after they use them.

Anyway, when I am sick, I want soup.  Well, I want soup even when I’m not sick, I guess, but when I’m sick it is a necessity.  Fortunately, Mexico is good at the soup thing.

I just had pozole from a restaurant near my house, called Pozoleria Mi Abuelita.   I’ve never had it anywhere else, so don’t know if this is typical of other pozole recipes, but this is made with either chicken or pork, hominy, and chiles.  It’s served with a number of things you can add into the soup:  lettuce, dried salted chiles, radishes, and lime juice.  With a glass of agua de jamaica (sweetened, iced drink made from steeping dried hibiscus flowers), this set me back 70 pesos (or about 5.40 usd at today’s exchange rate).  I had to add a lot of chile to make it spicy enough to cut through my cold so I could taste it.

The other thing I want to tell you is that Lionel at Salon Bleu hit ANOTHER home run last week.  Try to ignore how awful this photo is and just focus on that glorious, glittering red.  Then imagine it even better, since this photo can’t begin to capture how kickass it is.

And yes, in case you were wondering, I DID smell something bad when this photo was taken, which explains the look on my face.

Back soon, dollfaces.

  1. Hey there. i am sorry to hear that you are sick. I had just made a HUGE pot of chicken soup from scratch (my own stock and everything) wow- amazing I know. Oh well, it sounds like I will have a lot of chance to bring you soup if you are sick all of the time. Feel Better.

  2. Sorry you are sick, Heather. My husband and I don’t get sick very often, but that could be because we are out in the elements 356 days a year delivering the local newspaper. You know what they say about breathing in all that fresh air! I’m also really pissed because we won’t be going on our annual winter holiday this year. Looking forward to next year. By the way the red looks gorgeous on you!!

Darla: Thank you! The red won’t stay long, but it’s fun while it lasts.

Rasa and Joyce: Thank you, I’m sure I will be better in no time.

Ron: Um, awww. Thank you. Can’t wait to see you.
