I’ve definitely got mixed feelings about this post. I find it interesting that so many groups who are marginalized turn against each other rather than unite with a common goal of equality. You can see that in the Latinos’ rejection of Somali immigrants in the meat-packing plants after the raids. In black people’s rejection of Latinos in blue collar jobs.

And I certainly don’t think it’s helpful for one to paint all “blacks and rednecks” with the same brush as haters of LGBT folks. That made me angry and sad for both the black people and gay people (and some gay black people) that I know.

But why the “I’m more marginalized than you” game? That just alienates the very people whose minds you want to change.

What a great post by Ehren! Sad but true that there is still so much fear and anger toward people considered “different”. Get over it, white, black, red, gay, whatever! We are all part of the same human race and all deserve to be treat equitably.

Election day in the USA was one of mixed emotions. To be so forward thinking in the choice of President and so backward on Prop 8. Such a contradiction in equality.

Thank you Heather for posting this. I guess I’m kind of glad that I no longer live in the USA. I’m afraid I might be one of those agressive in your face militant fags by now. I fear violence and more bloodshed is on it’s way.

Did you know that in California, the majority of the Yes votes on Prop 8 were cast by blacks and latinos? How sad. They learned nothing in their quest for equality.

Heather, thanks for posting this. I am glad gays over here in Germany don’t have that problem. My former boss (female) got married to her girlfriend 2 years ago and now her son has 3 moms since her ex-husband remarried as well. I haven’t seen her that happy when she didn’t know her ‘now-wife’ yet. I am glad she found the new love of her life and that they could get married. You can see it in her face how happy she is. So I’d wish that people in other countries would get that same chance as well.

What a great post! Thanks so much for bringing Ehren’s word to us. I will definately check out her blog. I watched the election results with mixed emotions. I am Canadian but live on the border. I was shocked by the verdict in CA. Arkansas should get their heads outta their butts too as gay people there can’t adopt. WTF!!! I know every state had their own issues but I only know of a few. Kudos to Michigan for legalizing medicinal pot and to Mass for ending greyhound racing.
