They’re after me Lucky Charms!

What you can’t see in this photo are the hundreds of tiny ants crawling all over my bowl of cereal. You’d think that after 4.5 years of living in the tropics, I would stop being surprised by things like this and start putting my cereal in plastic containers and/or the fridge. That’s what you’d think, but you’d be wrong.

Looking at this photo, I noticed two things about Lucky Charms that I hadn’t noticed before, despite the great number of boxes I can kill in a month:

1. They’ve added a marshmallow hourglass Lucky Charm. I’m on board with this, provided it is merely an addition and they do not take away any of my pink hearts, yellow moons, green clovers, or blue diamonds.

2. They mention that it is made with wheat cereal grains (Hecho con Cereal Integral). So that must mean it’s super healthy, right?

How can I be expected to produce the long blog post that’s coming later today without breakfast? I’m going in search of huevos rancheros or chilaquiles; they better be magically delicious or my Monday’s ruined.

  1. We live on frosted flakes in our house (the more sugar the better). After all, THEY’RE GREAAAT!

  2. Lucky Charms use to be my favorite cereal, until dieting!! Now it’s Special K with berries.

  3. oh, those lucky charms.

  4. The only thing that looks wrong with that picture is the EMPTY cawfee pot!

  5. Darla: I have never eaten Frosted Flakes. I don’t even know why not, I’m sure I’d like them.

Islaholic: I love Special K with red berries, too. I love most cereal, to tell you the truth, except that woven dust that called Shredded Wheat.

Herb: Somehow you don’t strike me as much of a Lucky Charms eater.

Kathy: Check out the time…it was 10.36 am. By that time of the morning, I’ve already drunk the entire pot and need no more caffeine.

  6. Lucky Charms is yummy. But I’m addicted to my Honey Bunches of Oats. It’s got honey and it’s got oats, so it’s GOT to be good for ya. Sam’s Club sells it 2 bags to a box, so I feel like I’m getting a good deal when I buy it. I miss my Fruity Pebbles though.

  7. Remember Ants are High in Protein, low in fat.

    AND They are magically delicious!

  8. Libby: Honey Bunches of Oats sounds way too healthy for me to eat try, but I can get behind the Fruity Pebbles. They do have Trix here, and I love me some Cocoa Krispies. Too bad about the Count Chocula, haven’t seen that here.

Todd: Believe it or not, I briefly considered eating it anyway, thinking about the fact that SOME people eat ants all the time. But then I realized that it was probably only people in the jungles of South America or somewhere in Africa and really I have no business pretending I am of such hardy stock.

  9. I like lucky charms, but haven’t had them in years. I don’t eat cereal often cuz I am on this “we’re the only living creature that drinks another kind of creatures milk.” and when I think about it, I get grossed out. I better not start thinking about eggs..I LOVE special K, and not the dieting kind cuz I will eat half a box, and then, its not so healthy for you. (According to the total commercial its not healthy anyways. ) When I do eat special K I use vanilla soy milk and that tastes kinda funny.
You were just eating breakfast at 10:36? :)

  10. I was amazed that even in America, these rice ants made it past the inspection done at the Honey Buches of Oats factory. Or maybe that’s just it; There is NO detailed inspection of the mix that is put in the boxes to be sold. This used to be my favorite cereal, but now I have to find another one :( The commercials even make me feel good about eating it but now that I have looked into more DETAILS and SAW THE EXACT COMPONENTS OF THE CEREAL, I FOUND 13 ANTS floating in my cereal this morning. I even scooped them out with my spoon and put them on a paper towel. During Further investigation, one of them started walking!! They are just like ROACHES!! I guess we can never really get rid of them. Sadly enough I think the consumption of these ants (who contain multiple diseases in themselves already) is what is causing all these new diseases in humans. It’s just a thought but even if you don’t eat cereal, I’m sure you can find them in any other dry stored product. You only have to look VERY CAREFULLY, THERE THEY ARE!!
