Thanks for the input, everyone. Seems like just about all of you are of the same mind as me. I don’t consciously swear, but I do swear. As Martina said, I kind of write the way I talk.

And Kathy, I don’t think I’d take too kindly to someone “slapping” me for a word I used on my own blog. I’ll hear out their opinions, sure. Swears ARE just words and it’s our own perceptions that make one a “bad” or a “good” word. Of course, I don’t swear around children, although sometimes I forget one is near me and slip. Like at a Cubs game, man. I thought I was going to get ejected from the park once.

I have definitely noticed fuck but that’s about it. Probably because i got slapped when I said fuck on my own blog by the RVers. I teach my kids (14, 12, 7 and 9) that what people call “swear” words and “cuss” words are just words, nothing but words. There are some people who are offended by certain words but I really don’t give a flying fuck what they say.

Strangely, they don’t “swear” or “curse”. Maybe because it isn’t forbidden? Anyway, even with me telling them they are just words, the kids have all caught on to social nuances of what word might offend whom. And when their little Mormon friends are over they are ALWAYS correcting me. And I never drop the Fbomb around the kids, so go figure.

I cuss all the time, so I don’t have a problem with it. I didn’t even notice it until this post, which I think is a good thing because your writing is so much like your way of speaking that it all just seems natural, the cuss words don’t stand out because they are just part of your natural manner!

I never even noticed there were a lot of cuss words so I’m obvs not offended. But then again ever since mom took out the dictionary when I was like 12 and showed me and Joey all the swear words, I haven’t really given them much thought

I don’t think you over-use swearing at all, just for effect- and it works! Don’t change.
