This just can’t be true, can it?

Who cares if it is or isn’t. It just made me bawl my fool head off.

Update:  Thanks to Rivergirl for pointing out that this is TRUE, according to Snopes.  And if Snopes believes it, my friends, it’s true.  Wow, what an amazing story.

  1. Oh my God, this is the second time I’ve seen it and the second time I just wailed like an idiot. My husband knew exactly which video I was watching.
You are my new best friend.Thank you for the really nice comments on my blog, now excuse me while I go read yours!

  2. Heather I believed it. I saw it a week or so ago on Cute Overload and then again on ‘The View’(I think) Amazing footage! I just cried all over again. One thing though…WTF were they selling lions cubs at Harrod’s?

  5. I wanted to take the time and inform everyone that Christian had a great life! It is an incredible story of true love and friendship. Ace Bourke has moved back to Australia. John Rendall is still in England and is an active member and trustee of the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Trust. If you are interested in helping us please do so.
Thanks everyone and have a great day.

  6. OMG, ok, that was spectacular. I am all weepy!

  7. I know! I love that video. I saw it a few weeks ago and immediately ran over to snopes to see if it was true. I was really surprised to find out it was.

  8. Sorry, I might be the joy kill here…but as I watched it for the first time yesterday (my grandma sent it, bless her heart). I was waiting for the Lion to maul those two dudes. Glad it didn’t happen!

  9. Bufante: I thought that for a second, too…but then I realized they would have picked another song to go with the video.

  10. I have an idea of what they were doing at Harrods….waiting around for airheads like Paris Hilton to tote them around in a leopard doggy carrier for a few months til they got too big and then abandoning them!

  11. I prefer this story that I got in an email one time- LOL:

In 1986, Peter Davies was on holiday in Kenya after graduating from Northwestern University .

On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Peter approached it very carefully.

He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant’s foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it. As carefully and as gently as he could, Peter worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot. The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments. Peter stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away. Peter never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.

Twenty years later, Peter was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son. As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Peter and his son Cameron were standing. The large bull elephant stared at Peter, lifted its front foot off the ground, then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.

Remembering the encounter in 1986, Peter couldn’t help wondering if this was the same elephant. Peter summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Peter legs and slammed his stupid ass against the railing, killing him instantly.

    Probably wasn’t the same elephant.

  12. haha THATS funny about the elephants….
SO SWEET about the lion. I don;t care for cats, but lions I like. Cougars, cheetahs and the like, but not so much the domesticated cat. I am a dog girl. This is such a fine example of love! I need to find a lion (ha).

  13. If you are interested and have time…
I just spoke to John. He and Ace will be doing a link tomorrow on the NBC Today show from Sydney. They will be talking more about George Adamson and the Trust fund if you are interested.
    Thanks again,

    Eric

  14. I lived with a wild animal for years. I definitely believe this footage. We tend to judge wild animals based on the tamed ones that we know (dogs and cats). They might be related, but they are not dogs and cats. Wild animals are much more like us without the baggage and the social stigmas. They don’t care if you think they’re cool, they just want you to know that THEY think you’re cool.

I miss my Fred so much. This reminded me of him. He would pee on people to impress me. It was cute.

  15. I LOVED THIS VIDEO!! thank you so much for posting, even though it made me shed a tear. this vid just proves that they do have a consciousness and feelings! i’ve always felt a connection to animals, i guess that’s why i have 3 house cats, 3 outside cats, and a ferret! damn cute animals!
