Heather you have quite a memory (or maybe I just have one of those names - couldn't be so lucky to have married a Brown or a Beckwith!) Yep, you helped me with transportation last Christmas. We stayed at Mimi Del Mar and we spoke on Christmas Day about our departure the following day. I remember being so stressed having forgotten about making contact until the very end, and lo and behold, you answered the phone on Christmas Day. Talk about being impressed with your dedication! We'll be there again this Christmas for 10 days at Playa Palms. I'll be in touch again for the trans.

Heather, do a search for Becal, Campeche---just 6k over the border of Yucatan, going south. Hacendados enslaved most of the town at the turn of the century and the whole town was used in the production of what became knows as Panama Hats. Large Quintas grew jipijapa palm, originally brought up from Guatemala, for the production. The town has about 2,000 hand dug caves that are (well some are still) used to weave the palm that has to be woven in a humid environment. Wonderful, wonderful people there! Hey, how's the stomach?? Robin

Heather, I had to come back and read this entry today because there was something sooo familiar about it. I finally figured it out. Romper Room. Does anyone remember it? At the very end the lady had a great big looking glass and she would say "I see you Billy" "Hi there Jane" and so on.

Trina: Hi! Thanks for coming out from the shandows.
Robin: I'm in Playa del Carmen, but I do visit Akumal as often as possible. You've piqued my interest with the women weavers of Campeche, now I'll have to do some research. Thanks!
Char: I don't see your town showing up in my stats nearly as often as I'd like.
Tom: Wow, there are TWO people who live in Omaha?! Haha.
Sarah: Your name sounds familiar to me...do we know each other in "real" life? Thanks for the compliments on my blog, it means a lot to me.

Yep, another lurker ... from Wisconsin. Love your blog. Glad to learn I'm not the only one that checks several times a day for updates **blush** Heather, you rock. You make me laugh a lot, cry a little, but most of all you make me jealous! Thanks for keeping up with the blog.
