Bugs, again.

Well, coming up on my 4th anniversary of living in Mexico, I was gifted, again, with stomach bugs. Woke up yesterday am with the most severe stomach cramping I’ve ever had. It felt like a giant fork was twirling up my intestines like spaghetti and pulling. I spent the entire day hobbling from bed to bathroom and back to bed again, with occasional hopeful trips to the computer to try to answer a few work emails (this just happens to be one of the busier work weeks of my life, too). Oh, joy.

I am not a fan of the sample/lab visit/doctor combo, so this time I just took the Vermox Plus and am keeping my fingers crossed that it will do the trick. I am feeling a bit better this morning, but if I don’t feel 100% by tomorrow I’ll go get a blood test as well as the dreaded lab sample test. Ah, life in the tropics.

Anyway, this is why I have not been keeping up on my or others’ blogs. Be back as soon as I can.

  1. Have you ever taken a natural remedy called Diatomaceous Earth? I’ve used it before when I tried to self diagnosis after a trip a few years back. It worked great!! I still have a lot of it. I’ll bring you some just in case this hits again.

    Feel better soon Sweetie!!

  2. No, I haven’t taken that before, but I am willing to try anything if this ever happens again. I’ve only had this trouble 1x before, two years ago. It’s quite different from “routine” tummy trouble I get from time to time. I’ve heard that everyone gets parasites/amoebas here at some point.

  3. Well that’s a pain in the pooper. Sorry for your tummy woes. Hate those. I get them enough here in the states; I’d be bedridden if I ever moved there! Hope it passes soon. Take care….

  4. Go to the doctor you silly wench!!

  5. I will, Sara. Right after I get that breast exam. *wink*

  6. Aww girl, I feel your pain. Get yourself some Pedialyte or Gatorade to stay hydrated and keep the electrolytes in balance. Chug it, even if you don’t feel thirsty, just keep on it.

And splurge on some Cottonelle. ;-)

  7. aww I’m sorry you are sick. Hope you get better quickly. Go to the doctor!

  8. Oh, I’m so sorry you’re feeling bad. I had that issue a few days into our trip, and it was soooo awful. My friend Carol pointed out that, here in the States, we are still in red alert Don’t Eat Tomatoes From Mexico mode. I had pretty much forgotten about that for the first 80% of our trip, but now I’m wondering if raw tomatoes might have been to blame for my GI distress.

    Anyway, get better soon.

Maybe you need a healing trip to Spa Itza…

  9. We’ve had a virus that sounds much like you’re describing running through our family and folks here have said it is making its rounds of PaaMul. We have had amoebas and I have had Typhoid twice. This virus is not like amoebas in a couple ways and the need for Cottenelle is one of them.

  10. yikes! sorry about that – hope you feel better soon!

  11. Awe! So sorry….

  12. Fell Better..being sick sucks!

  13. Hope you get better… I hate being sick… but being stomach sick is the worst for me!

Still… I always tell myself that at least I’m bound to loose SOME weight during all those trips to the bathroom… that usually cheers me up a little… ;)

    Fned.

  14. sorry to hear you have the “Screamin’ MIMI’s “.. hope you all better. Its Interesting that you use Vermox ( mebendazole ) down there, unless the Plus is an additional medication and not just stronger. Usually mebendazole is used only for round worms,, pin worms being the biggie group. Well as long as you Get better quick .I look forward to being there in the Fall ..

  15. it’s cuz y’all don’t flush yer toilet paper, that’s why ya got critters in yer tummy.

  16. Kelly: We always splurge on Cottonelle!

    Teetle: Thanks, sweetie.

Julie: Mine’s not from tomatoes, since I can’t stand them raw and never eat them.

Kathy: If I don’t get better I will def. test for Typhoid. Yikes.

    Amy and Angie: Thank you!

Fned: Hell of a way to lose weight, yeah, but damn, my stomach IS much flatter right now.

Barry: I do know that pinworms are at least partially what’s plaguing me…there is a very distinct tell-tale symptom that I won’t discuss here. It’s pretty gross.

Trucker: I think maybe you’re on to something. *snicker*

  17. Dr. Roy, famous Playa chiropractor has a test for pinworms, (no, it’s not what you think) but if that’s what you got, the Vermox should take care of it.
    Get better soon!
