Can you guess the weird thing in this picture?

Well, can you? Look closely…and no, it’s not the half-finished tattoo I haven’t told you about yet because it’s not done. And no, it’s not that my dog Vinnie apparently has a taste for Chuck Taylors (at least she left me MOST of the shoe). Give up?

I’m wearing socks, people. Socks. And shoes. Woke up this morning and I was FREEZING and so I dug out the one pair of socks I could find and the ONLY pair of actual shoes I own (well, that might be a *slight* exaggeration). All day at work, I was so chilled my hands felt like flippers; I was an awkwardly typing walrus (wait, do walruses have flippers?) (walruses? walrusi?). I was convinced it was 55 degrees outside, so I finally looked up the local temp. and guess what it was…can you guess? 72 degrees.

Granted, it’s late at night now, so I’m sure it’s probably as low as 69 by now, but come on, people. I’m from CHICAGO. Do you know where Chicago is, how cold it gets there? The first time I can remember getting the urge to move someplace warm, I was standing at the bus stop at Lawrence and Wolcott, feeling all brittle the way you do in Chicago in the first week of January when you’ve been outside for more than 2 minutes. Every breath I took burned, and I thought to myself, “I don’t have to live here. I CHOOSE to live here.”

And just 3.5 short years later, here I sit, wrapped in a fleece blanket when it’s 70 freaking degrees outside. The tropics, they do something to you. Something bad.

  1. I can so relate to this post. We came from Alberta, Canada to Sonora, Mexico. It gets very cold in Alberta in the winter. Now I start shivering at 78 degrees, I used to think 78 degrees was pretty warm. Go figure.

  2. I’m the same way about the weather here. We have the windows open and I’m freezing. I have my fleece blanket out at all times (well when it’s not being eaten by the dog at leat). I’m scared of how cold I’m gonna be when we go home for Christmas. I need to buy real shoes too. I can’t wear my flip flops to Chicago. Oh well an excuse to buy new shoes isn’t such a bad thing

  3. oh yeah and I really want to see your tattoo!! I never thought you’d actually get one. I need another…it’s been almost 3 years since I got one
